Champagne in Terminal 2, the Queen’s terminal at Heathrow London

By Dr. Champagne

Bobo the Prince looked at me and just said ” Dad we did this last year already” I just told him we had gone through Queen”s Terminal but all the lounges were not open.

I had blogged about the Aur Canada Lounge and surprisingly they are still pouring champagne!

The Star Kris Singapore lounge had Laurent Perrier in the First Class lounge, which I snuck into much to Bobo’s chagrin

Got kicked out shortly. In the business lounge they were pouring

A growers champagne Rodier Pere et Fils

        • The United Lounge had Rodier Pere et Fils in business class and Laurent Perrier in First as well, guess some Star Alliance gods talk to each other.

The Lufthansa Senator Lounge was a huge disappointment, usually there is a grower champagne on order but in this lounge ONLY sparkling wine

But champagne lovers can relax as the terminal had many food outlets with amazing champagne for sale including Bollinger Grand Anne by the glass

So champagne lovers can relax the Queens Terminal at Heathrow is truly a champagne Haven.

        Bobo doesn’t care!!!

Battle of the Rose continues Drappier Rose vs Moët et Chandon Rose

        By Dr Champagne

Went over to Candy Champagne’s for Easter Sunday. Newfie Champagne brought over Moët Rose. Bobo looked at me I looked at him we had just bought the Drappier Rose. He groaned, you guessed champagne tasting!!!!

For me the Nose was very similar but loved the finish on the Drappier. Candy Champagne was Moët all the way, nose taste and finish. Newfie Champagne rated them as equal!!

For Candy no doubt the Moët was worth the premium. For Newfie and me two similar in look, nose, taste and finish.

Bobo just wanted to go home.

        Sometimes we drink Cava

        By Dr. Champagne

On my way out when Bobo yells at me ” you know they don’t have a lot of champagne in Spain”. I had already resigned myself to drinking sparkling wine instead of champagne.

Discovered this amazing restaurant on the water Barraca Mar I Arros, on the water sandwiched between the W and Hotel Arts.

Had a Rose Cava, Lounge Bertha and the best seafood Paella.

        Heaven without champagne?

Battle of the Rose Champagne ….. Continued

        By Dr. Champagne

“Bobo” I yelled “my blog published before I finished writing”. He just ignored me. Off course being a blog novice I could not figure out how to go back so am continuing the blog here.

Surprisingly I loved the Laurent Perrier Rose, it deserves to be called the best Rose Champagne in the world, this comes from a die hard Lanson Rose fan.

The champagne surgeon hummed and hawed but picked the Veuve as her favorite, I think she just likes the story of the widow!!!

Laurent Perrier Rose the clear winner.

Battle of the Rose’s, Laurent Perrier vs Lanson vs Veuve Clicquot Rose

        By Dr. Champagne

” You can’t do this Dad ” said my boy Bobo. He was questioning why I would be comparing our favorite Rose champagnes without Candy Champagne ” you know she has the best nose ” he exclaimed!

As you know it is hard to argue with Bobo but I had Baby champagne and the Champagne Surgeon with me.

First task of the day was to chill the champagne to the same temprature.

In a way I am glad Candy  Champagne was not here for the tasting, Laurent Perrier is her favorite Rose. In fact it is the most recognized Rose champagne in the world. It is made of 100% Pinot Noir grapes from 10 different crus.

I personally love the Lanson Rose. It for me is the most  reasonably priced champagnes on the market. Made with mixture of the three grape varieties in champagne Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.

The Champagne Surgeon of course loves Veuve Clicquot Rose. This non vintage champagne is an accessible perfectly balanced Veuve style champagne with Pinot Noir making up 50% of the three classic grapes.

So the tasting was done by myself and the Champagne Surgeon, Baby Champagne slept in.

The tasting was blinded. We did not see the color, we were blind folded. The Laurent Perrier had a deep red fruit nose, smooth crackling mouth feel and a long beautiful finish.  The Veuve had a nice red fruit nose and mouth feel but an abrupt finish. The Lanson was musty on the nose, light on fruit with citrus notes more comparable to a brut and almost a corky finish, we both wondered if it was a bottle that had not been stored properly.

Unblinded the Laurent Perrier had a beautiful ruby color with the Veuve being lighter and the Lanson having a very light Salmon Hue.

        Champagne in Turks and Caicos

        By Dr Champagne

Bobo my boy was sick of winter so we decided to escape south to the Turks. This is where I faced a dilemma, usually  I would pack a case of champagne and my Reidel glasses.

As everything is imported, goods on islands tend to be expensive but with my new passion to travel ultralight decided to risk it.

Stayed at a resort called Seven Stars and the glassware was more than adequate with two varieties of champagne glasses.

The selection at the IGA. a two minute walk away was a great selection of Brut champagne. The best deal was the Laurent Perrier at $50 but the Veuve was $85! Compare this to the Laurent Perrier Rose at $85?

A similar paradox happened in the Vintage selection with the Tattinger at $120 but Cristal at an unheard of $420!

Overall I was glad I didn’t pack my own champagne avoided the popular brands and drank the Laurent Perrier Rose all week, cheaper than in the store back home.

        Bobo was happy.

        Champagne Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve

        By Dr Champagne

My boy Bobo often asks me what my favorite champagne is and my answer is always Krug.

Recently though I have been drinking Charles Heidsieck brut reserve. Initially tried at the wine spectator. Loved it, had it again in Washington and now in WEHO.

It has an amazing toasty nose and smooth Brioche finish. I think I love it because frankly it is very Krug like!!

Tasting Menu at Le Cinq two star Michelin restaurant George V Paris

        By Dr Champagne

Love Paris but as I don’t speak French always find it hard to get a great meal. My favorite french bistro is Bistrot Paul Bert, one side seems for English speaking tourists and the other for locals. Amazing classic bistro fare and extremely reasonable.

But for a treat, and to pacify Bobo the Prince, had the tasting menu at the two star Michelin restaurant Le Cinq, at the Four Seasons hotel George V.

Think of this not as dinner but a Broadway show. The night starts in the bar with presentation of the champagne cart.

With dinner was offered a beautiful Amuse which we decided to pair with a bottle of Bollinger

The rest of dinner was a five hour exercise of indulgence with fresh bread, butter, truffle, lobster, lamb, cheese and I think four desserts. The wine pairings picked by the sommelier all seemed to be from Sicily or Italy!!!

Service was impeccable as one would expect in a Michelin starred restaurant

This dinner is a marathon and foodies would love every minute but even if one is not a foodie it is worth visiting the George V. The lobby always has an amazing flower display and a drink from the champagne trolley is always a treat.

Bobo was happy I visited his favorite hotel in Paris

Best new luxury hotel in Paris

        By Dr Champagne

When Bobo heard I was in Paris he asked if I was going to stay at the GeorgeV, the Four Seasons, one of his favorite hotels.

After staying at the Peninsula in Manila I decided to try out the newly renovated Peninsula hotel in Paris walking distance to the Arc de Triomphe.

        The lobby is stunning

But the best part were not only the rooms but the roof top bar in the L’Oiseau Blanc with a beautiful view of the Effiel tower

The house champagne by the glass is Laurent Perrier Grand Siècle

Did have dinner at Le Cinq at the George V, but more on that later.
