It is true. A billionaire in Hong Kong was killed when he was hit in the temple by a cork that caused a fatal brain hemorrhage. According to police, the champagne bottle could have been a Chinese counterfeit, an explanation that seems plausible for the exceptionally high level of carbon dioxide contained in it.

This got me to thinking about counterfeits and the alarming increase of counterfeit wines. From what I have read, it seems that champagne counterfeits are mostly an issue in China right now. But a note to Champagne Addicts -continue to buy your champagnes from reputable establishments.
